Writing process suggestions
Step 1. Write vomit draft don't pay to much attention to spelling grammar or perfect execution of every idea jusr get your ideas and plot on the page as fast and constantly as possible <dont wait to much in-between sessions you will forget details even if you are using a plot diagram as your refrence>
Step 2. Editing draft < for first/second draft for spelling plot holes run on stances poor word choice of writing and changing your mind if you dont like certain ways the story is going
Step 3. Workshop: Take your manuscript even if partially unfinished in the editing stage to a workshop idealy a free workshop like the Friday one at gunks Cafe or the Monday one at suny new paltz <our club> read it get feedback /ask for feedback on critique sites like qtcritique.com and update draft accordingly even use it in one of ur creative writing college classes Workshops
Update story with whatever feedback you agree with remember you know your own story best not all feedback is good feedback or worth taking
But feedback for your work for other writers is imperative to devoping a professional manuscript
step 4. Rinse and repeat _write, rewrire, feedback repeat_ tighten manuscrpt run it by trusted writers workshopers and professors and even hire a dramaturge if need be. Make youtube vedios blog on ur own website about your process to document progress
Keep doing that till your done and then you can behin your publishing process!
*go to Confrences, join weekly workshops working writer communities in your area both online and in person. Network at writing events look for beta readers and spread word about what agents ur querying to make friends who would sweep for you.
if you have any friends working or interning for lit agents or agencies try to get them get you a refrence /give the agent a shout out on your behalf writers with references are 40x more likely to get chosen by agents
Make your your manuscript is sqeeky clean no spelling errors/done! By the time you start querying.
Publishing process basic steps:
*Write your query letter/synopsis /update your athor bio and athuor website. Get everything you need for querying <pick ur three comparsipn books, one line pitch, demographics ect*
*get your agent Lists on query tracker and such <best ones linked below> make spreadsheet to keep track of agents u query so u dont query the sane agent/agencies twice.
*network: join pitch events online twitter has alot of them /follow reach out to other debit athors make groupchats and solitary comunties to help raise and uplift eachother in the industry, make friends with other writers in publishing to get a refrence, raise money to attend confrences and pitch to agents irl make sure your one line pitch is snappy _pay a marketing company for your book _ self market on tik tok/social media or even irl billboards posters or selling book merch and art at cons to get the word out.

OFFICAL QUERY LETTER: Lying Flatt The Rise of Mack Lasher: Query Letter. - Google Docs
Hint of industry advice: Froms omone whos been at this for over two years and pretty much had to learn all on my own:
You don't just need a query letter for querying you also need:
1. A professional athour bio
2. A synopsis of your book
3. The first 10, 20, and 50 pages of your book (make sure
4. A set subject line for email queries (remember to read their requirements on their twitter, or agent website)
5. Set key words to help you find agents looking for the kind of book you are pitching--- example: Romance, romantacy, LGbt, Ownvoices, ect.
6. Network with other athors, attend pitch events on twitter and bluesky if you can (free /in person always better)
7. Try to post about your book on social media they like to see a brand/following.
9. Make an athor website you have to link it on most queerries.
10. Use a pen name. Dont publish under your real name
11. Dont look at good reads, avoid trying to go viral on booktok its too comepetive /trashy.
12. Focous on writing the best book you can a book you belive in so much you'd do anything to get it published, you need to be stupid about your faith in your own book to make it in this buniss due to the ocean of rejection you will face.
11. Most peoples first book isn't the one they publish.
12. You can address the ajent and even flatter them based on previous work they have published but this is not required and in some cases may be perceived as sucking up, write a vague all encocpsing line that could be applied to any agent instead and focus on selling your own book rather then sucking up and appealing to eveeyr agent induvsually.
13. Save a PDF, word dox, and every file type of your letter when finished. using AI to write summaries and query Leters are not ideal nor recondmeded, but might help in sumrizing the plot in a sellable way ---the bulk of your letter---and stramling the letter to be as short as possible (their meant to be short) as long as you write the body and bulk of it yourself, I personally wouldn't discount AI enteriely at least for some spiffic uses.
12. Write with tour own voice worry about selling editing and publishing later, your story is what you should focus on while writing not the success of being an athor, that's not what you should be doing it for, but for the joy of writing and telling the story you need to tell deep down in your heart.
12. Have both a query submission and daily writing route, the more queries you send the more likely you will get chosen, make sure you do as many per day every day, as you can manage to submit make a system out of submitting till its second nature.
13. Never submit to the same agent or publishing house twice. They will know, and automatically reject you
10. Try to self publish (not your book your querying that duesfocifies you)
4. A list of three popular books similar to your book
5. a one sentence pitch
6. a list of demographics your book should appeal too.
7. The exact final page number/word count (needs to be 300 pages max, at most cant be 800 pages too long they wont publish it)

A great way to get your manuscript and query letter noticed besides querying online is to network with other writers on twitter and at workshops:
And go to Confrences (their expensive but our club will be rasing money for us to attend confirences this fall)
Another great way to build up your writers resume get hired at writers rooms publushing companies and get agents attention is to sumbit your best short stories, poetry and/or art in literatary journals and magzines.
Warning lots of magzines cost money yo submit raging from 2$ - 20$ per submission
And lots have strict submission period so keep track of dates and times they open.
